The Catcher in the Rye, I've always heard about this book and how good it's suppose to be and right now I like it. I mean it's kind of hard to tell if a book is going to be amazing by the first two chapters but I like the whole stream of consciousness thing, I've always wanted to know exactly what's going on in the main character's head, to know what he's thinking about when certain things are happening. It can be a little confusing at times if you don't really know what's going on and what he's just thinking about. But I think I have just enough ADD to understand what he's talking about. :) Holden seems like the typical slacker-mad-at-the-world teenager. All teenagers I think have a bit of Holden in them, I know I do. I'm really excited to see where this book will lead. :)

After watching the first part of the movie there are a lot of things that it has in common with the actual book and the interview with Morrie. I think that the way that Mitch is portrayed in both the movie and how he is in the book are very similar, with the job being his top priority. The way that he seemed to always be preoccupied and having multiple things to do is very close. In the actual interview and on the movie, Morrie's disease seemed to having similar effects. Sometimes in movies they will exaggerate things to make a point but I didn't feel like that with this one. I really liked the way they included Morrie's dancing into the movie, it helps to put things into perspective of all that he's losing by having this disease. Also, the way it showed how hesitant and kind of awkward Mitch was when he goes back to see his old professor after sixteen years is pretty accurate to what I was thinking while I was reading. The way that Mitch seemed to start to warm up to Morrie the longer he was around him seemed like how it was happening in the book, like he starts out not feeling like he should be there but then he starts changing the longer he's around Morrie. The way that Morrie is portrayed in both the movie and the book are similar by the way he speaks openly about dying and that he is accepting it and trying to make the most of his remaining life. Both are very good.
There are also many things that are different between what I've seen of the movie from what I've read. Personally, I pictured Morrie differently, being more philosophical and a bit on the crazy side, but in the movie he just seems to be pretty normal. I was also expecting there to be more about Mitch pre-job, while he was in college, because when i was reading this seemed like an important part of the book. To show that Mitch wasn't always just worried about his job and money, that he cared about other things. Another difference I found while I was watching the movie was that Mitch and Janine are not married they'd just been together for years, that point was a cause of tension in the relationship. I do think that in the movie that they should have showed more of Morrie also in his earlier days, I feel like that is a really important part of the book, that he wasn't always just a man that is dying.
Overall though, the movie is a pretty good representation of the book. Like many other things, it could be better but I do think that it does a good job at helping to visualize what's going on in the book. :]

Morrie Schwartz, this is one extraordinary man. From the book, I know I should have expected him to be as much but he really is something else. Honestly, I wasn't expecting him to be as much, I was thinking of a little old man who may be a little off the rocker with all these philosophies but he really isn't. Morrie has accepted that he is dying and is making the most of his remaining life.
Thinking about it, I don't think I know of anyone who would be that okay with knowing that their body was slowly becoming useless. I know that for sure I wouldn't be okay and accept it. I really don't know what I was expecting out of Morrie from the book but to me, he was more than I was expecting. Morrie is a man that I would've liked to have been taught by. I think I could've learned a lot of things from him.
